Johannes Hunter Jewelers has been Colorado Springs’ premier jewelry store since opening its doors in 1988.  The roots of the business started to grow in the early 1970’s in big sky Montana.  Linda Hunter (then a single mother and student) began selling turquoise and sterling silver Indian jewelry on the side of the road.  In 1976 she opened up Lone Mountain Jewelry in downtown Bozeman.  Lone Mountain grew with the heat of the Indian jewelry craze and started supplying Indian jewelry to concessions in Yellowstone National Park.  As the craze faded in the late 1970’s, Lone Mountain added diamonds and gold to the store inventory.   Linda also began taking GIA courses to learn the technical aspects of the fine gem trade.

Lone Mountain jewelry dissolved in 1980 and Linda moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  She opened a tiny downstairs shop, Johannes and Company.  Linda soon met, married and became business partners with Glenn Hunter, who had many years of experience in the traditional jewelry business.  The Coeur d’Alene business prospered and opened a second location in 1983 in nearby Sandpoint, Idaho.

In a quest for more sunshine and a larger market, the couple moved to Colorado Springs to open a fresh, new jewelry store.  The Colorado Springs jewelry store grew by leaps and bounds.  Robin Johannes, Linda’s daughter, joined the business in 1991.  Before joining, she managed the Coeur D’Alene store until it sold and then worked at LaVake Jewelers in Princeton, New Jersey to gain varied experience.

Johannes Hunter doubled the size of its Colorado Springs jewelry store in 1994.  Brenda Boyd, Linda’s oldest daughter, joined the company in 1999 with many years of experience in the trade.  The following year, Glenn Hunter left Johannes Hunter Jewelers to open another jewelry store in the area.

The jewelry store grew and prospered in downtown Colorado Springs for 23 years.  In November of 2011 the store expanded yet again and moved to a bigger location in the University Village Colorado shopping center. (5182 North Nevada Avenue, Suite 100, Colorado Springs, CO, 80918)

Linda, Robin and Brenda can all still be found behind the cases, doing what they do best.  They are proud of their business and proud to be Colorado Springs’ premier jewelry store.
